This is Tsuchi (J-31), one of the 75 remaining Southern Resident Killer Whales that are found only in the Pacific Northwest, often around the vicinity of the Salish Sea. She is nearly 30 years old (still pretty young for an Orca in the wild) and has two brothers, Mako (J-39) and Blackberry (J-27). These siblings lost their mother, Blossom (J-11) in 2008, leaving a 13-year-old Tsuchi to raise Mako, who was just 5 at the time. Tsuchi made headlines in 2016 when she was seen carrying the deceased body of her own calf for some time. However, she has also become famous for helping out other mothers in the pod with the raising their young. Clearly, these Orcas are incredibly sentient and intelligent animals, likely well beyond our understanding.
