The Flammulated Owl is a tiny, migratory owl species. In the spring and summer, they reach as far north as my home province of British Columbia Canada, where I captured this image. As a lifelong birder, the Flammulated Owl has always been a bird I've wanted to see. For nearly ten years, I'd heard their deep hoots echoing through the Ponderosa Pine forest at night on my spring visits to the south interior of my home province. However, it wasn't until the the Summer of 2020 that I managed to lay my eyes on some of these stunning birds. When this individual appeared at the entrance to it's tree cavity home on a late spring evening, I was blown away by its unique plumage and camouflage.
