The intelligence and character of jays has always fascinated me. Each year, they spend much of their time gathering food, hiding it for use in times when food is scarce. They may create thousands food caches, and will remember the the locations of the vast majority of them. This particular photo, of a Steller's Jay in flight against a backdrop of the sky, is one that I had envisioned for many years. After countless hours spent hiking in the mountains, I was so thrilled when it all came together.
