When a rare heavy winter snowfall was forecasted in my area, I knew I had to spend the photographing birds in the snow. I set out to a local lake near home city of Vancouver. Having visited the lake for years, I knew there should be plenty of ducks around. However, these were the specific conditions I had been waiting for. The snow blanketing and falling on the landscape was perfect for lighting up the details on the plumage of the local ducks. After some time lying down on the ground next to the water, this male Ring-necked Duck swam in my direction. As he approached, I was enthralled by his bright yellow eyes, intense gaze, and the crystals of ice clinging to his plumage. This was the resulting image that I captured!
