Each winter, thousands of Surf Scoters gather in the waters of the Salish Sea. Many of them end up right around downtown Vancouver, where they spend time in the harbor feeding on blue mussels, which they crack open with their large beak. Often, entire flocks will dive at the same time, creating a stampede of moving scoters and splashing water. Positioning myself at a low-angle perspective at the edge of the ocean, I was able to capture this spectacular scene.
