While exploring the interior of my home province of British Columbia, I always keep my eye out for Red Fox. On one particular trip to the Cariboo region of the province, I was rewarded with this encounter after several days of searching. I wasn't initially pleased with the late morning light, but I noticed the possibility of an interesting lighting scenario. By positioning myself so that the fox was standing against a background of dark trees in the shade, I was able to create a studio-like black background effect. Using backlight from the sun, this also created a beautiful rim-lighting effect on the fur of the fox.
