While photographing birds from a small boat off the coast of western Mexico, I noticed a spectacular phenomenon- iridescent rainbow clouds! Iridescent clouds are typically seen near the sun, where small water droplets or ice crystals scatter light to create the colourful sight. While these rainbow clouds lasted just a few minutes, there were many Magnificent Frigatebird flying around, and it didn’t take long for one to fly directly in front of the bright colours before the phenomenon disappeared. I used a small aperture of f/20 to capture detail in both the bird and the clouds in the background.
