In the Summer of 2020, planet Earth was treated to a rare visitor, in the form of C/2020 F3, also known as Comet NEOWISE. This 5-kilometre wide piece of ice flew past us and around the sun at 40 miles per second, and won’t return for nearly 7000 years! On the night of July 14th, I was photographing the comet, and was treated to an unexpected surprise: the northern lights! A rare sight from the Vancouver area in the southwestern corner of Canada, the aurora is always incredibly special to catch. Combined with Comet NEOWISE, this may have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Utilizing long exposures, I was able to capture the breathtaking scene in all its glory!
