The night of July 13th 2020 was without a doubt one of the most magical nights I’ve ever spent out under the stars. I was stargazing from less than a couple hours outside of my home city of Vancouver, enjoying a spectacular naked-eye view of Comet Neowise stretching across the northern sky. The scene was taken to the next level when the Aurora showed up, “photobombing” my shot. I first noticed the Aurora as a purple smudge on my image, and for a brief moment wondered if it was a lens flare or similar artifact. Pointing my camera to the north revealed a beautiful green glow on the horizon. Shortly after, the intensity of the Aurora increased, and pillars of light were clearly visible to the naked eye, dancing across the northern horizon.
