Sea lions rest out of the water at sites known as "haul-outs". This particular haul-out, located on the west coat of Vancouver Island, is a gathering spot for hundreds of Steller's Sea Lions for much of the year. Standing tall in this photo is a massive male, the largest sea lion I've ever seen. He likely weighs over 2000 pounds, and was surrounded by hundreds of smaller female sea lions. I framed this image with the mountains of Vancouver Island in the backdrop, capturing the spectacular environment in which these animals live.
