Reddish Egrets are both skilled and enthusiastic when it comes to fishing. Often, they will run around in shallow waters with their wings open chasing fish, a very entertaining sight! At other times, they take a more patient approach. In this photo, the egret is using its wings to create a shaded region in the water, which attracts fish. The egret will even move around its feet in a specific way, acting as a lure. Once a fish is within reach, the egret will plunge its bill into the water at high speeds. If all is timed correctly, the egret will have a nice fish meal.
