Hovering mid-air, this adult male Barn Swallow fed his offspring a mouthful of freshly caught insects. Spotting the young swallows perched on some dead branches at the edge of a wetland, I had hid myself in the the nearby foliage, waiting for this intimate moment to happen. Barn Swallows are an impressive bird, travelling great distances on their annual migrations. They spend the non-breeding season as far south as Central and South America but migrate north in the Spring to their breeding grounds across North America, including my home city of Vancouver.
